What is EWA and how does it work?

EWA (Earned Wage Access) lets you access up to 50% of the salary you have already earned in the current pay period. The amount is transferred to your bank account and automatically collected via Direct Debit (Autogiro) on your regular payday. It is not a loan — it is access to wages you have already earned.

Is this a loan or a line of credit?

No. You are accessing money you have already earned through your work, not borrowing against future salary. We do not charge interest, do not perform a credit check, and do not report to credit bureaus. The service is structured to fall outside the Swedish Consumer Credit Act (Konsumentkreditlagen 2010:1846) because it is not a credit product.

Who is behind EWA?

The app is operated by Hiewa AB, a Swedish company. We use licensed Open Banking providers (PSD2) to read your salary history securely from your bank. This is a demo build — the legal entity, organisation number and partner integrations shown here are illustrative.

Question 4

What does it cost?

45 kr for an instant transfer (seconds) or 25 kr for standard (1–3 banking days). It is a flat fee per withdrawal — no interest, no hidden fees, no monthly subscription.

When and how is the money collected?

The full amount (withdrawal + fee) is collected automatically from your bank account via Direct Debit (Autogiro) on your regular payday. You do not have to do anything yourself. The exact date is always shown in the app before you confirm the withdrawal.

What happens if I do not have funds on payday?

If the Direct Debit fails (for example because your salary is delayed), we automatically retry within a few banking days and notify you. If repayment continues to fail, a statutory reminder fee of up to 60 kr may apply under the Swedish Act on Reminder Fees (1981:739). As a last resort the claim may be passed to a debt collection agency under the Debt Recovery Act (1974:182), which can affect your future creditworthiness. Please always contact us first if you think your salary will be late — we will find a solution together.

Can I repay early?

Question 8

Why do I need to sign with BankID?

Accepted Answer

BankID is used to verify your identity under the EU eIDAS regulation and the Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) requirements of PSD2. You sign both when you connect your bank and each time you make a withdrawal.

Question 9

What is the Direct Debit mandate and what am I approving?

Accepted Answer

When you connect your bank account you sign a Direct Debit consent (Autogiro-medgivande) governed by Bankgirocentralen's rules. It allows us to collect the agreed amount (withdrawal + fee) on your payday. You can revoke the mandate at any time via your bank or by contacting us — but you remain responsible for repaying any open withdrawals.

Can you see my bank login credentials?

No, never. All authentication happens directly with your bank through PSD2-licensed Open Banking infrastructure. We only receive the salary data you explicitly consent to share.

How is my personal data protected?

Accepted Answer

All traffic is encrypted in transit and sensitive data is encrypted at rest using industry-standard methods. We comply with the GDPR and the Swedish Data Protection Act. You can request a copy of your data or deletion at any time — see Terms & Privacy.

What are the risks of accessing salary in advance?

Accepted Answer

Even though it is not a loan, every withdrawal reduces the payday you have coming. Money you spend now is not there for the rest of the month. Repeated use can create a cycle where you are always a month behind. We recommend using the service for unexpected expenses, not for everyday spending.

How do I know if I am using the service in a healthy way?

Think of EWA as a liquidity tool for urgent needs — not extra income. If you withdraw more than 2–3 months in a row, take a look at your budget. The Budget tab in the app can help. For free advice you can contact your municipality's budget and debt counsellor (budget- och skuldrådgivare).

I am young and new to managing money - what should I keep in mind?

Three quick tips: (1) never withdraw more than you actually need right now, (2) remember the withdrawal + fee will be gone from your next salary before rent and bills, (3) if you feel you need to withdraw every month, pause and ask for help. There is nothing wrong with that.

Can the service affect my credit score?

Accepted Answer

No, we do not run a credit check and do not report to credit bureaus. However, if you fail to repay and the case goes to debt collection, a payment default (betalningsanmärkning) may be registered, which affects your creditworthiness for up to 3 years.

How do I close my account?

Accepted Answer

Email support@hiewa.com from your registered email address. We delete your personal data within 30 days, except data we are legally required to keep for 7 years under the Swedish Bookkeeping Act (1999:1078).

Where do I go with a complaint?

Please contact support@hiewa.com first. If you are not satisfied with our response you can turn to the National Board for Consumer Disputes (ARN) or the Swedish Consumer Agency (Konsumentverket). For data protection concerns you can file a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY).
